Show Your Range: Perfect Tense

Get used to using the present perfect tense. It's so useful and so common in English. However, Chinese doesn't really have it and so many Chinese speakers don't use it. But trust me, it's worth learning how to use properly, and then using it in the test.

Example:

Q: "Where do you live?"

A: "Right now I live in Taipei; I moved here at the end of last year; so I've been living here for a year or so."

Can you see? It's a simple Part 1 question, but the answer displays a wide range of grammar, including that so-useful perfect tense. You have shown the guy that you can speak good English.

Of course, you can use it in almost every question:

Q: "What's your favourite kind of food?"

A: "I love icecream, which I've loved since I was a little kid."
