Practice Everywhere

Compared to improving other aspects of English, developing a good ear for the spoken language should be relatively easy to do. After all, you can practice your listening anywhere and at any time.

You just need an MP3 player and audio files of spoken English.

Many of the popular magazines for studying Engish here in Taiwan provide such files. And there are websites offering the same. Find something to suit your level.

ICRT's easynews is more challenging. Here you can find MP3 files of the news and written transcripts to read.

Movie soundtracks might be useful, if you can get them on to the player.

You might want to make your own files to listen to. Choose an article and record it yourself, or have a native speaker record it for you. Take your recorder into class and record the lesson.

Get into the habit of watching CNN or the BBC. Watch movies without the subtitles. Listen to ICRT or any of the countless talk radio stations on the Internet. You could even record those streams and upload them onto your MP3 player.
